Expanding our Presence in Flint

Today the Mott Foundation has announced a grant awarded to the College of Human Medicine to work with our health system partners in Flint to expand our research, medical student and master's programs in public health.

This grant makes possible an approach to building research, education and service that is deeply engaged with the community of Flint. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn in an environment in which responsibilities and rewards of community engagement are part of their everyday experience.

Our goal is to create an education and research platform that will be meaningful to the people of Flint and result in improving the quality of life for those who surround the medical school and support it.

This is an enormously challenging and worthy goal. We build on our longstanding relationships with Hurley Medical Center, McLaren Regional Medical Center and Genesys Health System and the consistently high quality experience of our students with these major Flint area health systems.

These institutions are vital to the wellbeing of the Flint community. Partnering with the dedication of the Mott Foundation to strengthen and vitalize the Flint community, all of us together will establish a vibrant learning community that will make a difference to the people of Flint and beyond.
