Dean's Update

A Message from Dean Marsha D. Rappley, MD

December 20, 2013

WELCOME HYUNG T. KIM, MD, MBA
Please join me in welcoming as our new Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs Hyung T. Kim, MD, MBA.  Dr. Kim joins us from Southern Illinois University HealthCare at SIU School of Medicine where he was Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chief Executive Officer.  He was an executive at Ascension Health, the largest non-profit health system in the US, and a leader of the health care practice at renowned consultancy McKinsey & Company.  He is a Board-certified internist from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and obtained his MBA from the University of Michigan.  Dr. Kim will lead the college in the integration of our college clinical practice.

ROSE BOWL DRAWING
The college was fortunate to have four Rose Bowl tickets contributed for a drawing for students and staff. 142 people participated. Two lucky students each won two tickets for the Rose Bowl! We hope that everyone is there to join us in Pasadena or sitting in a comfortable spot with fellow Spartans cheering on our team on New Year’s Day. The last time we went to the Rose Bowl was my first year as a junior faculty member at MSU, and I still have my mug from 1988. So make sure you get your memorabilia! Go Green!

WISHING YOU ALL WARM AND PEACEFUL HOLIDAYS
Thank you to all of you who bring your talent and energy to the College of Human Medicine. We have much to be grateful for in 2013, and so much to look forward to in 2014. Our teams across the state including our staff, our students, our faculty, our alumni, our patients, and our health system partners are advancing an importation mission—improving the lives of those people of our near communities, of our state, of our nation, and indeed, throughout the world. It is an honor to be a part of the land grant mission that drives Michigan State University and carry that forward as we all do together.
