I've always had an interest in medicine. As a youngster, I was the kind of guy who was always interesed when I was in or around hospitals. Third Year:
Kate A. Damm
I chose to pursue a career in medicine after I took part in the Exploring Medicine program at CHM's Saginaw campus as a high school student. I observed physicians and medical students in several departments there during the summer months, and it was after that experience that I decided to pursue medicine in college. [View this Profile]
James (Jamie) Chamberlain Harlan II
I've always wanted to be a physician. I have a long family history of physicians on my father's side (including my father), so I was always interested in medicine. My mother is a nurse, and this just added to my medical family. As I grew older and began thinking about my future career goals, I knew I wanted an intellecutally stimulating and challenging career. Knowing that my future was teaching medicine, it was clearly important to me to find excellent teaching mentors. Having gone to MSU for my undergraduate education, I was acutely aware of the type of faculty that teaches at the college. I came to CHM through the Baccalaureate/M.D. Combined-Degree Medical Scholars Program, which offers conditional acceptance into medical school at the time of entry into a course of undergraduate study at Michigan State. I entered this program after high school because I had an established and tested commitment to medicine, and the Medical Scholars program offered me flexibility during my three years of undergraduate study.
