Upper Peninsula Campus
MSU-CHM and the Upper Peninsula Health Education Corporation (UPHEC) have partnered as the MSU-CHM Upper Peninsula campus to train high-quality committed physicians to serve in rural primary care.
With a shortage of physicians interested in rural areas, the best way to recruit and retain physicians for rural practice is to select individuals from small-town rural environments. These are the physicians who will most-likely return to practice in rural and remote areas.
The Upper Peninsula provides the ideal practice setting for a challenging and rewarding career in an exceptionally unique environment. Training physicians in this environment provides real-life small town experiences that are only available through the support and effort of the people of the community, its physicians, and its health care facilities.
UPHEC provides a small community campus setting with individualized training to eight students per class, and is considered the only rural primary care program of Michigan State University . Since 1974 UPHEC has trained 170 physicians who have entered 18 specialties.
The U.P. Campus is one of six campuses located in communities throughout the state including Flint , Grand Rapids , Kalamazoo , Lansing , and Saginaw.
